Beware of a backpack that is too heavy

While carrying a backpack that is too heavy on the way to school, warns the Canadian Safety Council (CSC), Canadian students run the risk of compromising their health and experiencing injuries to the spine and arms. These injuries may lead to chronic issues that can persist into adulthood. The weight of a backpack should not exceed 10% of the body weight for an elementary school child and 15% for a secondary school child. If your child complains of back pain or if you are concerned about their posture, consult a chiropractor for a more thorough examination.
